The Clarksburg Literary Society began in 1879 and is back! The Academy was built in 1833 and was one of the first private institutions in Montgomery County. Clarksburg was the third largest city in the County by 1850. The Literary Society formed from local authors, poets and citizens to explore the richness of literaure. The Star Trek Association of Towson (STAT) is a club where science fiction fans gather and socialize through monthly club meetings and an annual convention. Although founded in 1978 by Star Trek fans, STAT long ago broadened its interest to include all SF television shows, movies, books, and science.
